The rumors are true. The Magnus Mills are back.
No, these pepper and salt mills aren't inexpensive. But we think they're worth every penny. The Porcelain Magnus Mill pairs a sculptural white porcelain body with gorgeous American Black Walnut, hand-finished in New York by my friend Magnus Lundström. Each one is fitted with an adjustable Danish-designed CrushGrind ceramic mechanism.
That kind of production takes time, and Magnus can sometimes fall behind. So you may find these mills out of stock from time to time.
They're worth the wait. These are the mills I use at home. And the ones I give as gifts.
They are simply the most beautiful, sculptural mills we've ever found. The porcelain version was inspired by an antique tea strainer Magnus discovered at his grandmother's house.
Magnus finishes each walnut top with three coats of marine-grade oil, sanding between coats, followed by English wax and ultra-fine steel wool until the wood is silky smooth. It's a remarkably labor-intensive process for a pepper mill, and part of what makes these so special.
The adjustable CrushGrind ceramic mechanism handles peppercorns or salt with equal ease. The silhouettes are striking, and the quality of the hand-finished walnut is something you simply won't find in an ordinary mill.
This is the Porcelain Medium (7.6"h.). Many people buy two, one for salt and one for pepper. Also available in Porcelain Large (8.5"h.), Dark Walnut Medium (7.4"h.), and Dark Walnut Large (8.5"h.).
They're just as beautiful to use as they are sitting on the table. Paired with a tube of Divakar's peppercorns, they also make a wonderful and memorable gift.
To load peppercorns, hold bottom half and firmly pull the Walnut Wood piece straight up and off. Fine tune grind coarseness using gray dial on bottom of mill.
Millies Tung Oil or mineral oil may be used to clean wood. A damp cloth can be used to clean porcelain. Do not put in dishwasher. Do not substitute other peppercorn or salt brands in place of Reluctant because you know I’ll find out. Do not pass go.
